Reinhold Messner will travel with his wife Diane Messner to the first-ever CALL Film Festival in Bad Hofgastein, where he will be present in person across all four festival days.
As part of the festival, the CALL Film Festival will present the world’s first cinematic Reinhold Messner retrospective – an extraordinary showcase of ten films by, with and about one of the most significant boundary-crossers, mountaineers and adventurers of our time.
The first to climb all 14 eight-thousanders without supplemental oxygen
Few people embody the question of how far human limits can be pushed as vividly as Messner. His expeditions to the highest and most dangerous regions on Earth have made him an icon of modern alpinism and a global symbol of courage, risk and self-determination. Messner was the first person to climb all 14 eight-thousanders without supplemental oxygen. He has crossed Antarctica and Greenland, and even traversed the Gobi Desert alone.
At the CALL Film Festival, Messner will share in person how each of us can overcome our own limits. A particular highlight of the programme will be his personal introduction to each film: Reinhold Messner will accompany every screening with individual introductions, offering the audience direct, personal access to his experiences and perspectives.
Redefining the relationship between humankind and nature
Beyond the screenings, Messner will lead several masterclasses and deliver a major keynote talk during the festival. Audiences have never had the chance to experience Reinhold Messner and his wife Diane this close up before.
This retrospective is far more than a cinematic tribute – it is a unique glimpse into the life of a man who has redefined the relationship between humans, nature and the very notion of limits. “Pure Messner” thus becomes one of the central experiences of the CALL Film Festival.
